Igueldo: Well known for its' amazing views of the city and surrounding hills. You can hike up, or take the cable car that takes you there. It is great fun to go for a ride in the ancient “montaña suiza” (roller coaster), or have a go at the “autos de choque” (cars), almost everything has stayed held back in time in the 50s, a true vintage adventure, and great place for old style Instagram pictures!
Ulia: Located at the end of the Zurriola beach in Gros. The beautiful views of Zurriola and the city are well worth the hike up this hill, quite steep at the beginning, no high heels please! Want to see the true green Basque Country? Jump on the Camino de Santiago trail and go searching for some of the ancient pathways. Pasajes San Pedro, a fisherman’s village, is reachable in 1 hour and a half (or less!) following a beautiful walk by the sea.
Urgull: This mountain is located at the back of the ‘Old’ part of town. Climb up to Christ, or get lost and find the bar! Great place to spend the afternoon, maybe try the local Patxaran or have a mojito, but beware of the hike down. If you are in cultural mood, there is a museum below the Christ, and quite a bit of history hidden in the trails.
